For whatever reason, most athletes dress like shit. Great physiques, tons of money, absolutely no drip. Just a grown-ass man decked out in the most expensive label he can find, with no real display of taste.
My diagnosis: so many athletes dress like this because they don’t actually care about the clothes. They can afford Chrome down to their drawers; might as well flex.
Which makes Mark Vientos a pleasant fucking surprise. Not only does he play for my Mets, he’s the best-dressed man in baseball. Your time is up, Bader.
Vientos loves clothes. In a 2024 interview, he said that as a kid, he’d put on his freshest outfit just to pick up food with his parents. How can I not admire someone who’s been deeply romantic about getting dressed since childhood?
In that same interview, he gave Francisco Lindor the edge as the Mets’ best dresser. We’ll agree to disagree.
Not to go all Stacy London on your ass, but most gameday fits are terrible. This is not that. If one of my boys popped out in this fit, I’d say, okay, he’s doing something. It has a little “friend tries fashion” energy, but that’s not a bad thing. The color combo shows he’s willing to step outside the usual without going full “look at me.” I fuck with the bag. Full-print Goyard can get played out quick, but I like how he’s always reaching for an accessory.
Carhartt two ways, in the same IG dump. We’ll start with the nighttime look. It’s simple, it’s easy, it works. I’d love to see a belt on those pants. As for the Goyard, Mark, I can show you a world beyond full print.
The denim jacket with the track pants is doing more for me. I just don’t know if I can stand the sound of those pants. I’d probably swap them out for a cotton pair. I love how he’s always tossing on some glasses. The backwards hat with the flow is aspirational. Not for nothing, that’s a pretty good cigs-and-brooding couch in the background.
It’s well noted that I love a green pant and a coffee pic. The jacket has that Western look I’m deeply into but not that involved in. Maybe when I look less like modern Travolta and more like Bud, I’ll pursue my Urban Cowboy look. The glasses are a winner. The belt, less so. Even when everyone knows yours is real, wearing the most faked belt in the world is probably a slip-up in taste.
I know the fit is good. I have faith in my boy. A fun tie without being the “fun tie guy.” I see those pants and picture a handsome jacket over it all. Please let it be double-breasted. Nighttime shades—from afternoon to afters. A great hand if you don’t overplay it.
Mark, you fucking dawg, you did it. I love this fit. I would wear this fit. I wish my building’s elevator was this good. The fit of the pants. The all-black with the navy US Open hat… chef’s kiss. And if you see this, tell me where you got that jacket.
The drivers need to be replaced with some real-deal footwear. Other than that, no notes. This is your best work.
Carhartt, proportion, an unreal leather jacket, and loads of accessories. The defense rests.
Mark Vientos is the best-dressed player in baseball, even if he wants to hand the title to Lindor.
Come back next week for the Filonification of Mark Vientos.
